Clouds is the third full-length album by Tiamat, issued on September 1st, 1992 through Century Media Records.
The LP is widely regarded as a pivotal transition in their career, representing a shift from their earlier death metal origins to a more melodic and atmospheric blend of doom and gothic metal. The album is characterized by a slow, mystical ambiance with dense, unified riffs that echo influences like Celtic Frost. Johan Edlund’s vocal delivery combines stoic clean singing with restrained growls, avoiding excessive brutality and instead lending a contemplative tone. The production and instrumental work on Clouds were considered high quality for its time, with keyboards adding ethereal, dreamy textures. Standout tracks such as “In a Dream,” “A Caress of Stars,” and “The Sleeping Beauty” are noted for their memorable choruses and substantial atmosphere, while “Undressed” closes the album with a doomy, evocative journey.

“Forever Burning Flames” is a personal favorite for many fans, noted for its grooving rhythms and killer death metal riffs, featuring Edlund’s sick-sounding vocals. The tracks “The Scapegoat” and “Undressed” close the album with an epic, mysterious sound and a strange, melancholic atmosphere, respectively. “Undressed” is especially memorable for its long, exotic guitar sounds and a haunting female choir, ending the album with a feeling of descent into an abyss.
