Tome of the Unreplenished is another Atmospheric Black Metal band. The main difference from the rest is that the country of origin is Cyprus. Despite the fact that it’s coming from a Mediterranean Country, it expresses quite easily the true feelings of the cold atmospheric Black Metal institutions of Nordic lands. Hermes is the only member and he decided to create Tome during 2012. “Innerstanding” is Hermes’ debut album; it is his second release and is very interesting. The first recording was made real back in 2013 and was a self-titled EP.
Hermes continues successfully his work; he knows very well what to play and offers us some of the most important atmospheric and ambient elements of this kind of music. We could say that Hermes explores the hidden regions of the soul, abandoning himself and, of course, the listener to a depressive rollercoaster of transcendental, cosmic beauty.
All instruments unleash the spacey compositions, both in blast beats and slowly parts, which are so tied, like a knot, with some experimental sounds and without playing excessive and useless rhythms, chords, scales etc. There are vocals just in three of the seven tracks, leaving the listener to imagine the magical view of his own words to psalm. Vocals aren’t blacky, except for some screams, but adapt to the clear singing due to the overall conspiracy “waterfall” of the soul wellness. Some repeated rhythms, especially to the last nine minutes song, form a kind of negative thing to this recording. Maybe, more intense ambient synths could cover this and emphasize to the oppressive thoughts.
Ending this review, it has to be mentioned that the main themes of Hermes are neoplatonism, universe, creation and philosophy which in combination with the previous referred experience can specify your thoughts about what Tome of the Unreplenished offer.
