Born in 2006 from vocalist Daniel Altwegg and friends chasing raw, loud fun, Total Annihilation honed an aggressive melodic edge blending death and thrash. Their 2008 demo TA 80 and 2009 debut 84 (both reissued for enduring demand) built a cult following, while 2012’s Extinction—bolstered by a second guitarist—unlocked festival slots like Metaldays and Swiss Metal Masters. Lineup shakeups left Altwegg as the lone founder, but 2020’s …On Chains of Doom proved their resilience with peak technical brutality. Post-pandemic, they ravaged European stages with Legion of the Damned, Asphyx, and more. Now, “Mountains of Madness” channels H.P. Lovecraft’s 1936 cosmic horror novella not as escapism, but as a mirror to our planet’s reckless destruction—tentacles, jaws, and mutations symbolizing environmental collapse and human hubris.
