Facts about Totengott are very clear and specific. They formed in 2013 in Asturias, Spain as a Celtic Frost tribute band. From 2015 they started composing their own songs but they never wanted to wean themselves from the shadow of Celtic Frost. It is something that is obviously done on purpose but it does raise a question as for chances of the evolution of the scheme. The truth of course is that what Totengott are doing, is totally out of respect for the legacy of Tom G. Warrior.I’m specifically referring to Warrior because secondarily Totengott, are also influenced by Triptykon. “Beyond the Veil” is the third full length of the Spaniards. Let’s create a hypothetical scenario. One listens to “Beyond the Veil” without having heard either Celtic Frost or Triptykon before. He will listen to a dark, atmospheric album with interesting compositions. An album with a certain orientation, ritualistic vocals and slow parts. So it’s a good record even though it’s a lasting tribute to Warrior. It may depend on the perspective that the listener himself wants to give it. Some will prefer the original material and refer directly to the source, and some others will also appreciate Totengott’s compositions. We fight with the latter but we also understand the first ones.
