I’ll try and be as “calm” as possible, since what we’re dealing with here is the new work of one of my favorite bassists, a metal icon for many. Of course I’m not referring to other than the Lord Ronnie Ripper, the former bassist for Vomitory and Gehennah. As the main composer and lyricist of Gehennah, he scattered terror and panic with this band back in the 90s by signing tracks, now characterized as classical in style.
But enough with the recollection of the past. Here we have the new, fifthy album of thrashers Turbocharged and as natural, things are found as the band left them (demolished). A modern, pro production which elaborates on the “dirty” Turbocharged attitude, on the ‘muddy’ bass (as we say in the great school of noise), on the lyrics attacking on every direction with the characteristic scratched Ronnie Ripper’s vocals and of course on the almost schizophrenic leads from the Lord Old Nick. Their music comes directly from the Great Venom / Motorhead School with lots of punk / hardcore action. The nearly 12-years-stable line up seems to have delivered a really good album of “dark” thrash with some blast beats scattered, reminding us the nice 90s era.
“Popecleaner”, “Where The Sodomites Never Burned” and “Demonization” are very nice examples of “extreme” thrash metal with all the necessary ingredients: dirt sound, anger in verses, blood on the wall. Gentlemen, check it immediately! I am sure that all devotees of bastard sounds will find something to worship.
