Fourth full album (eighth on their full discography – check their E.Ps or else….) for Universe 217. Interestingly, if you place the names of their albums in order the phrase “Universe 217: Familiar places Never Change” is formed. How much truth does this phrase hold? They have managed to create a musical metal corner that no matter how many times you return, you will always feel comfortable despite the changes in the decoration. Sometimes is more rough, sometimes warmer, sometimes more colorful, sometimes dark and sometimes full of light. You know it’s always comfortable there; it’s your own personal corner. They are part of league with very few bands that never disappoint.
Straight to the album details now. The cover artwork may remind you the band A Perfect Circle due to the vertical orange tilde, but don’t get fooled by that. Musically the album has generally a huge grandiose Kashmir (Led Zeppelin) atmosphere, especially the closing of the song Undone. Of course, like a band that respects itself, Universe 217 hold their character but occasionally they throw in some ISIS hints (the band, the good ones), My Dying Bride on their slow and melodic parts, TooL (Here comes), Juno Reactor (Rest Here … pistolero) and U2. Tania and her voice are rock’ n’ rolling regardless! The production is like the sea of Paleokastritsa in Corfu, crystal clear and deep with multiple frozen submarine rivers. It’s just perfect for diving. Dive.
I would say that Change is one click below their current peaks namely Never and Ease, although I really think that they have not released their best album yet. Universe 217 are a Sergey Bubka like band. Every time they set the bar higher and higher.
