I really hate going out on Saturday evenings. But when it comes to going to see Universe217 playing live (in my town), then I’m more than willing to make an exception. The concert began with an -hour and a half- delay, which is pretty typical. The crowd shows up about an hour later than the time printed on the bill and the venue is forced to wait until more people show up before the gig starts. Anyway.
The first band to go on stage, were the youngsters Noir from Karditsa. During the half hour (more or less) they played, they showed us that they have potential and that they may present something really good to us in the future. Of course, a lot of hard work is required (something that goes for all the bands with really young members) in order their doom/sludge compositions to sound not like songs with some good ideas but like good and completed songs. Time is on their side and all the experience they gathered by being the opening act for Universe217 gigs (as far as I know they opened for them again in Larisa, the night before) will definitely help them a lot. Keep up the good work guys.
I can’t tell you much about Warcode, the band that played next, since their style of music (death/thrash) is not exactly my cup of tea. What I can tell you is that they seemed to enjoy themselves on stage (and so did the crowd) and that there was a fun vibe while they were playing.
Universe217 is one of those bands that sound better live than on tape (and they sound amazing on their albums/E.P.s). I’m sure that Tanya has grown tired of everyone worshiping her voice but that’s her own fault for being so damn incredible. The way she uses her voice is terrifying, her performance is most importantly full of soul and her presence on stage is unique (she’s the best doom frontwoman I have ever seen to be more accurate). But make no mistake. Universe217 is not just a band that happens to have a really good singer. They are four unique artists and their live appearances are a journey to a much darker place. The best moment of their show was when Tanya lowered her microphone and stunned everybody in the venue with the power of her voice.
As Jack Black says on “Master Exploder”:

My voice is fucking POWERFUL.
I wish they visit us again soon, although I’ll probably see them again earlier on Earth’s concert. You should definitely check out their new E.P. called “EASE”.
