As the world is holding its breath for their debut studio album, ok, let’s be honest, I meant as I can’t wait me and 5 or 6 more die hards for their first full length entitled “Echoes from the Gutter”, I’ll write a few words about Venator’s debut EP “Paradiser” that came out in March 2020 first digitally then in cd and later in split EP with Germans Angel Blade all via Dying Victims Productions. Hailing from Austria these guys surely know how to write great songs. Totally old school as if it was recorded in the 80’s. Warm analog production, thick and district bass lines, melodies and catchy rhythm. (Twin) Guitar driven fist-pumping heavy metal with excellent vocal lines, opener “Paradiser” is a mid-80’s five minutes long song with N.W.O.B.H.M. adorning, born to be a hit single; dark and hooky that wins you by hello. It will stick into your mind and the voice will remind you a young Rob Halford ready to conquer the world. “Blind Ambition” will bring in mind early 80’s Judas Priest, in another kick-ass mid-tempo hit single. “Creatures of the Sea” is a bit slower (actually 100% mid-tempo groovy) yet powerful and dark too. The remarkable thing is that Venator achieved a balance between commercialism and creativity, so without losing any of their youth’s impetus and hunger for Heavy Metal the 3 compositions are total accessible to the masses, combing power and melody, as they are full of variety of elements, riffs and brilliant ideas.
