Vomitory’s In Death Throes is the Swedish death metal band’s tenth studio album, released today (April 10, 2026) via Metal Blade Records. It follows their 2023 comeback album All Heads Are Gonna Roll and upholds their signature brutal, old-school death metal sound with relentless riffs and gore-themed lyrics.
Vomitory wasted no time proving their hiatus was just a pit stop. In Death Throes explodes from the gate with “Rapture in Rupture,” a track that mashes chainsaw guitars against relentless double-bass fury, setting a template of pure, unyielding aggression. These guys—back after a 3-year break—haven’t softened; they’ve honed their craft into something sharper, filthier, and more addictive.
The album’s core shines in its rhythmic assault. Songs like “For Gore and Country” and “Forever Scorned” lock into groove-heavy warlike riffs that recall the band’s early days but with tighter production—crisp enough to carve through speakers without losing that raw ’90s grit. Vocalist Erik Rundqvist alternates guttural roars and high-pitched snarls seamlessly, layering disgust over tales of decay and violence. Standouts include “Two and a Half Men” and “The Zombie War General” where mid-tempo chugs build to explosive breakdowns, and the title track, a 5-minute epic that twists melody into savagery without mercy.
No filler here; every cut serves the mission. Drummer Tobias Gustafsson’s precision anchors the chaos, while the twin guitar attack from Christian Fredriksson and Urban Gustafsson delivers hooks that stick like shrapnel. At 40 minutes, it punches above its weight, leaving you battered but craving replays. According to drummer Tobias Gustafsson, while the unmistakable Vomitory sound remains, the new album cranks up the intensity. “In Death Throes picks up where All Heads Are Gonna Roll left off, but we’ve turned the intensity up a notch. Christian (he refers to guitarist Fredriksson) quickly found his place and even contributed music to four killer tracks. These additions bring a bit of diversity to our sound without straying too far from the formula.”
Vomitory reminds everyone why they ruled the scene once, and why they still do. Last but not least, once again another Vomitory album comes with a sick artwork cover, this time painted by the Greek artist Giannis Nakos.
