Genre: Melancholic Doom/Death
Country: Finland
Label: Schwarzdorn Production
Year: 2016
A new release arrived to add itself to the misty and fair grounds of atmospheric music a few days ago, with the first full-length album of the Scandinavians (“A Part of Us Will Never Leave This Place” demo and “At the Edge of the Mist” EP had preceded on 2009 and 2011 respectively) called VUOLLA… Listening to it just once, it’s enough to bring to the winter cold, summer albeit (I consider winter to hold a great inspiration for a Finnish, after all, it comes out in every of their musical endeavor). And how could it be otherwise, when the record captivates you with its slow, heavy-driven guitars, its haunting key-themes, its mellow female and growling male vocals? The quintet managed to create an interesting musical soundscape and an atmosphere that follows the paths trodden by Shape of Despair, Katatonia and first-era Anathema.
All you Doom/Death worshippers, check them out without hesitation, and you won’t be disappointed…
Album highlights: Death Incredible, Chambers to fill with Longing, Rivers in Me.
