Coming from Switzerland’s Lausanne, When Icarus Falls present to us their fourth album under the title “Resilience” (with Over The Frozen Seas in 2009, Aegean in 2012 and Circles in 2014 having been preceded) and it is obvious that since the very beginning the band’s intention is to explore every dark musical universe with psychedelia and intense post rock/metal aesthetics. With just 5 tracks and 41 minutes of duration, it is strongly proven that even under chilling vibes the making of a traveling soundtrack can be achieved. The influences are many and incongruous. From jazz references to eletronic elements, everything works supplementaly for one another, in a post rock minimal vibe. That does not cancel the mass of the album’s heavy riffs that makes the listener’s fantasy stimulate. There are plenty oriental elements and volumes that remind us of even the greatest rock “therions” which have been inspired from the east coast in the 70’s. It is important to say that the brutal vocals do not add anything huge and are probably unnecessary. It goes out to every fan of the specific genre and especially fans of Isis and Cult Of Luna.
