Most of you that saw the cover artwork probably mocked or laughed. Or most of you 70’s diehards may wondered if the hints of Blue Oyster Cult’s classics “Spectres” and “Agents of Fortune” were really there or it was just a glance of your memory. Well you were damn right as White Magician pay a tribute to their heroes and main influence in their cover artwork, and they are proud of it.
Hailing from Detroit, Michigan (U.S.A) White Magician is actually the alter ego of Demon Bitch, as every member of White Magician is also in Demon Bitch and also in The Great Kaiser’s White Magician where their frontman Derek Di Bella aka The Great Kaiser is their mastermind. Ok, despite the absence of inspired moniker choices in their heads, still these guys know how to create interesting music. I guess this is more important, both for us and their career.
Their style is 70’s oriented Hard Rock and Heavy Metal in the veins of Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath. Nice and warm analog sound and effective dual guitars are mixed with a flawless approaching that is flirting with no limits jamming in the studio, sounding yet not so experimental as you might think, but probably more traditional in their own way.
“Dealers of Divinity” features 7 strong compositions with simple, but hooky ideas that are based on catchy melodies. Check: “Mad Magic II: In the Absence of Gods (Bad Magic)”, “Magia Nostra” and of “Spectre of a Dying Flame”.
