Germans Witching Hour grabbed the underground’s attention (especially in black/thrash subgenre) back in 2011, with their second full length album ‘Past Midnight’. Their inspiring melodies of their, not so brutal, black/thrash was the reason that made them shine over a generic pile of groups. Three years later, the time has come for their fans to get what they deserve with the ‘Ep ‘Where Pale Winds Take Them High…’.

Since 2012, and after the original drummer left, guitarist Sascha Bastian is behind the drum kit. A new member added too, Philip, who handled the rhythm guitars. Another change compared to their earlier releases is that here someone can find much more heavy metal elements that bring in mind the golden era of NWOBHM! This brings more interest to their music and gives life to their own unique identity, an identity already started to form in ‘Past Midnight…’.

The epic intro may mislead a lot of listeners, but after the second minute and the burst of the first oughs ‘in the light of the black candles’, the pummeling begins and everything takes its place. Teutonic speed/thrash at its best, with melodic and epic riffing. The classic, rough german accent is present, reminding past glories. The production is pretty retro/old school and fits perfectly with the band’s attitude.

With this release, Witching Hour is offering us four simple, but well-crafted tracks that upon numerous and continuous listening become addictive and stick in your mind. Additionally, the epic intro and the melancholic instrumental outro compile a pretty satisfactory ‘Ep, that will please for sure, the fans of speed/thrash and even those of heavy metal.
