Washington D.C.’s Death/Doom band ILSA has announced their new album, “Preyer”, November 20th on Relapse Records. So less than 2 weeks is enough time, to find the 15-20 euros that it costs, in order to buy it. Yes indeed I start my review from the epilogue or the conclusion. But I feel that whoever spends some time spinning any of ILSA’s previous 5 studio albums, he/she knows what to expect in “Preyer”, even though truth be told the album has nothing new, that hasn’t been done previously by ILSA. If you are into muddy sound, this ferocious mixture of Doom/Death metal, Crusty Punk and Black Metal essence will blow your mind. The album starts with a monologue from Sean Sellers, a devout Satanist and the youngest killer to ever be executed on death row, detailing a cold blooded murder he have done. The use of samples from serial killers monologues and strange rituals are here and there in the album in its entirety, creating a sick atmosphere like in a B’ movie soundtrack. Riffs are dominating “Preyer”’s sound and the Eyehategod and Melvins elements are perfectly mixed with weird, dark and twisted Doom parts. A totally strong release with a rotten atmosphere surrounding the place you are, as long as the record plays…
