Label: Transcending Obscurity Records
Mindkult is a one man’s band form Virginia, USA. ”Lucifer’s Dream” is the band’s debut album where mr. ”Fowst” (he plays everything) presents his stoner/doom music edition which, although bringing many influences to mind, manages to retain a unique sound. Bands like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Sheavy, Coven (among others) have marked the way Mindkult write melodies and create gloomy atmospheres. Although half the tracks are over 8 minutes long, they are far from boring – which speaks volumes for the band’s great song-writing. “Nightmares” and “Howling Witch” are the highlights of the album. Strictly speaking, sound production could be better; in this music’s genre however, this is probably giving the whole release a cult stigma. Vintage and nostalgic, trippy and dark, “Lucifer’s Dream” is a cool, easy-listening album through a label that is almost impossible to disappoint. I believe that Mindkult hold even better things for us in the future.
