Despite the fact that Misanthropic Rage have been active since 2015, we already have our hands on their third complete album titled “Towards the Greyscale Aphorysm”, which was released by Godz Of War Productions earlier this June. I can say with relative ease that Misanthropic Rage have persuaded me enough with this album, because while at first they made me compare them with other bands in my mind, after some thought I concluded to the fact that when you give a chance to new bands, you should not be biased. So any comparison with other known bands is useless for this case. In “Towards the Greyscale Aphorysm” two are the basic elements: Harmonization of different genres of music and theatricality of the vocals. From a musical standpoint, Misanthropic Rage ‘play’ with intense rhythm changes, increasing and decreasing the tempo as they please and embedding their classic Black Metal structures with Avant – Garde elements and bursts by galloping Death Metal. The good thing is that all the instruments tie evenly to each other and having as an ally the good production that lets them breathe, they make the album easy to “consume”. The vocals on the other hand play with your mind; you feel like listening to voices in your head that force you to do something bad. It’s a big deal for a record and therefore for a band to put you in their game and make you dance as they please. One more positive point is added by the fact that the album has an escalation. The more it progresses, the more it escalates. Hate towards the human species and the need for pessimism are also integral parts of the album. In conclusion, “Towards the Greyscale Aphorysm” is a very unique release, especially in Avant Garde, but I would like for it to have a bit more elaborate compositions, since I felt that we were marching upon repeated motives at some points.
