Genre: Thrash Metal
Label: Nuclear Blast Records
Overkill are probably one the most honest bands out here. Always hard working, always streetwise, always hungry for more metal! So you may thought that Overkill in their return would choose a career spanning best of or at least a setlist based on their 4 last (tremendous) studio albums all released via their current label in order to create a tracklisting for their number 3 live album. Instead we have a weird but also interesting choosing. Celebrating the band’s history, ‘Live In Overhausen’ captured not one but two album anniversaries. Fans assembled on April 16, 2016 at Turbinenhalle 2 in Oberhausen, Germany for the 25th anniversary of ‘Horrorscope’ and 30th anniversary of where it all began, ‘Feel The Fire’. Elpida and Gio have written a really nice article about the debut, a stellar album that really marked an era combing the Maiden-esque melody and the Thrash aggression back in 1985 so perfectly. ‘Horroscope’ of course is another classic album from New Jersey’s best band ever (not even close Mr. Jovi or Skid Row despite you both have been awesome). To be honest is their last ‘big one’ as after the following one ’I Hear Black’ (1993) and until ‘Ironbound’ (2010) most of their albums received a lot of negative criticism from the Press and a part of their fans. So when you buy ‘Live In Overhausen’ you get 2 classic albums, 2 thrash gems played live in a nice package of 2LP’s or 2cd’s with DVD. 36 years later Overkill are still here loud and proud, stronger than ever and this release is an excellent example to prove it!
